The internet has evolved significantly since its inception, often categorized into three distinct phases: Web 1.0, Web 2.0, and Web 3.0. Each phase represents a shift in how users interact with the web, the underlying technology, and the overall purpose it serves.

  • Web 1.0

    Web 1.0, the static web, spanning the early 1990s to early 2000s, introduced a read-only internet where static HTML pages delivered information to users. It was a one-way street—content came from a handful of creators like companies or institutions, with little to no interactivity. Basic technologies like HTTP and early browsers enabled global access to knowledge, marking the internet’s first step as a public tool focused on presence and discovery.

  • Web 2.0

    Web 2.0, the social web, emerging in the early 2000s. Web 2.0 transformed the internet into a read-write platform, emphasizing user participation and social connection. Dynamic technologies like JavaScript and APIs powered platforms such as Facebook and YouTube, where anyone could create, share, and collaborate. Centralized companies dominated, amplifying connectivity but hoarding data, making this phase a trade-off between community-building and privacy erosion.

  • Web 3.0

    Web 3.0, the decentralized web, has been gaining traction since the 2010s. It shifts toward a read-write-own model, prioritizing user autonomy through decentralization. Blockchain, smart contracts, and AI drive this phase, enabling peer-to-peer systems like Bitcoin and Stacks through personalized experiences via intelligent tools. It promises data ownership and trustless interactions, redefining the internet as an equitable space. Currently, blockchain as an ecosystem is loud, fast-moving, and a wild west in some corners. But, clearly, it is an innovative space where leaders, individuals, and businesses are being enlightened and empowered each day.

The Block9 Journey

Today, we are a small but vibrant team focused on empowering individuals and businesses. Our technology journey started 15 years ago in Web 2.0. We have been blessed to work with some of the nations largest corporations throughout our time in the industry. We have seen the technology landscape evolve from dedicated hardware, to personal computers, virtualization, cloud, and most recently artificial intelligence.

Though, in the background, over the past 15 years blockchain has been steadily evolving and growing. Beginning in 2017, in our personal time we started keeping tabs on it. Each year, learning more and more. It could never be shaken off as a fad. This once concept but now reality of decentralization is incredibly fascinating.

More and more, as we went down the rabbit hole it was becoming clear;

decentralization is a game-changer and an innovation that will transform industries, organizations, and even governments.  

Why Block9?

As noted above, web3 is noisy and in corners of the ecosystem it still has aspects of the wild west. New blockchains or projects can pop up and down in a night, week, or months. If you havent spent some time in the ecosystem it can be hard to see through the noise. Furthermore, if you havent seen technology evolve it can be hard to decipher who's "cosplaying" as innovation sometimes knowingly or unknowingly. In some cases, it can also be a lukewarm version of innovation.

So, as we peered through our lens of experiences and understanding of blockchain we saw that people, organizations, businesses, and governments are going to need someone.

Someone they can trust.

Someone that understands how businesses work.

Someone that can look at their goals and align it to capabilities within this innovation.

As our founder has said, "success is a natural byproduct of doing what is right and good. Take care of people and everything else will fall into place."

After much contemplating, the decision was made to take a leap of faith and create Block9 in July of 2024.

Every engagement; whether small or big our goal is your success. We want to teach, empower, and show you how to navigate this new landscape. In many cases, there is no centralized entity in blockchain that can step in to course correct an action or mistake. Therefore, it is imperative to follow best practices and have a strategy.

More innovations will come with time to mitigate or lessen user errors. But, in the present, having a trusted resource is key to dodge malicious users, applications, and costly mistakes. Furthermore, they can help you discover the business opportunities of tomorrow that will surface in the markets you serve.
